Why The Great Commission Society?

Why The Great Commission Society?

‘Why the Great Commission Society’ and ‘what are we about’?

In our multicultural and multinational societies today, I want to assume nothing with regards to the Bible and to the teaching of Jesus.

It may be that you don’t know what the Bible is, or indeed, who Jesus is.  If that is so, then it is to you in particular that I have written this article.

Have you ever stopped to think, I mean really think, where you have come from and where you are going after the few years you spend on planet earth are over?

This is the whole issue that the Bible and the central figure in it (Jesus) is all about.

In the Bible we read that everyone born into this world is ‘sinful’.  To put it more simply, everyone has an imperfect nature causing us to do things that are wrong – The Bible calls this sin. There are no exceptions – regardless of social position, ethnicity, background or age – we are all born imperfect! Do you know of anyone who has never done anything wrong?

The Bible teaches that God is holy (perfect) and this means He cannot allow any wrongdoing to go unpunished.  The Bible also teaches the place of punishment for sin is called Hell.

Now since God`s dwelling place is Heaven and since He cannot allow sinful people into Heaven, the question I would like to ask you is as follows:

  • If you died today (and it is a road we all must take) would you go to Heaven or Hell?

Sin, our inability to overcome it and its punishment is bad news.

I’m pleased to say this is not the end of the matter and that there is also good news. The Bible tells us that Jesus (who was and is perfect) came from Heaven and died a cruel and barbaric death on a cross to take the punishment for all sin committed by everyone who has ever lived.

In taking the penalty for my sin and for your sin; in rising from the dead (defeating the power of death) and in paying the penalty you and I deserve to pay, He achieved what is otherwise impossible.  He created the opportunity for you, me and every human being who has and ever will live on this earth to go to Heaven.

So, how does this work? There are 4 steps:

  • Admit to being a person who has and does sin
  • Recognise there is nothing we can do on our own to defeat the power of sin in our lives
  • Accept the undeserved gift of Jesus’ sacrifice and turn our back on our sin (the Bible calls this repentance)
  • Recognise we owe Jesus our very lives and because of this, live our lives for Him.

By doing this, God guarantees us forgiveness for our sin and gives us a place in Heaven.

I began by asking the following question: Why the Great Commission Society and what are we about?

Jesus gave His followers the instruction to go into all the world to preach the Good News (Gospel), to all nations. This is known as The Great Commission and we want everyone to hear this message, including you.

There is much more that could be said.  If you have any questions, please let us know and we will be delighted to do what we can to answer.

God Bless You
